Welcome to San Carlos

The city of San Carlos has certainly lived up to its nickname of “City of Good Living.” Aside from being conveniently located between San Francisco and Silicon Valley with easy access via Highways 101, 280 and Caltrain, San Carlos is beloved for its small-town, suburban feel. And despite being just approximately a quarter of San Mateo’s size, it offers a diverse selection of retail and dining options, plus fun recreational activities.

Exciting Amenities

San Carlos maintains 15 parks within city limits, covering a total of 143 acres. Burton Park, the town’s largest, features sports fields and courts, a splash pad, picnic tables and a trail for biking, scooting and skating. It also hosts the annual “Hometown Days” –a carnival that’s packed with food, entertainment and games. Arguello Park is another popular park that features hiking trails, benches, picnic tables and barbecues, play equipment, tennis courts and a soccer field.

The San Carlos Museum of History provides a glimpse of the city’s past with its extensive collection of artifacts, photographs, books and other memorabilia. And for those wanting to learn about more contemporary subjects, the Hiller Aviation Museum is an aircraft history museum that offers hands-on exhibits where visitors can enjoy interactive experiences such as taking control of a simulated airplane in a flight over the Bay.

The city also celebrates the annual Art & Wine Faire –a festival that showcases local and regional premium wines, craft brews, hand-crafted cocktails, pop-up artists on Laurel Street and San Carlos Avenue, street vendors and live music held in downtown San Carlos.

Other San Carlos community events include: Music in the Park, Goblin Walk (Halloween) and Night of Holiday Lights (Christmas).

Downtown Dining Scene

San Carlos is not just popular for its mid-Peninsula location, but also for its vibrant downtown bustling with its slew of businesses, shops, restaurants and bars including the famed Town –a dining hotspot that serves regional American cuisine, ranging from wood-fired rotisserie chicken to steaks, chops and fresh seafood. The oval bar at the center is the restaurant’s highlight, with its creative offerings of hand-crafted cocktails.

Laurel Street, fast becoming known as a premier dining destination on the Peninsula, offers a wide array of cuisines and culinary styles. Another popular dining spot is Spasso –an Italian-Mediterranean eatery that celebrates the freshest seasonal vegetables and the highest quality seafood and meats in every dish.

Top-Rated Education

Complementing this healthy dose of leisure is the city’s top-rated schools. Excellent academic programs are provided by Arundel, Brittan Acres, Heather and White Oaks Elementary Schools, Arroyo Upper Elementary School, Central and Tierra Linda Middle Schools, Carlmont High School and Sequoia Union High School District.
